here is a sample doublepage of what i thought of.
the first page in the pdf is just a cover sketch, nothing final.
page 2 and 3 (put together for better impression) displays the artist page and the way the artworks can be shown. here only one artwork is shown. it is also possible to devide the page in two pieces (for two landscape format works etc.).
as each artist could have up to three pages for his/her works, you can vary the size of your works. so a detail picture is possible.
i tried to keep the layout very clean and serious. the art should be the main thing of the book. no overloaded pages should harm this aspect in my eyes.
feel free to comment on this and give some own ideas if you have some.
